Golden Lake Lentils 🌅
Written by: Delta
I start off red but turn to gold,
In bowls of warmth when days are cold
One cup of red, the yummiest grain,
Rinse well like morning Rhane.
Add water — clear, just to your need,
Then salt, maybe a teaspoon indeed.
A pinch of gold — that’s turmeric’s charm,
To colour and soothe, to spice and warm.
Chili power is next, just a touch of fire,
A teaspoon or maybe more, if you desire.
Stir it all and bring to a boil,
Then let it simmer — no need for oil.
Twenty minutes, give or take,
Until it’s soft — a golden lake.
But wait — it’s not quite time to eat,
Let’s give this bowl some crackling heat.
In another pan, warm up some ghee:
Fresh garlic, cumin seeds — and chilli flakes if you please.
Sizzle them in a little oil,
Let the scent and colour coil.
Pour it in with one last stir,
A bloom of spice — and now, you purr.
Serve with bread or pour on rice,
This humble bowl is warm and nice.
